The Swim Teacher of the year award is an opportunity to acknowledge the commitment, contribution and professionalism to the education and safety of individual teachers.
Eligibility Criteria
Teachers in this category are accredited in teaching swimming and water safety to students.
- Must hold a current and recognised Swim Teacher/Instructor qualification/accreditation within WA.
- Must be able to demonstrate considerable experience and/or knowledge in all areas of the selection criteria.
Selection Criteria
- Personal Attributes
- Provide clear examples and evidence that support the nominee’s personal attributes to teaching in relation to communication skills, positive attitude, lesson presentation and preparation
- How does the nominee engage, influence, motivate and inspire their students?
- Teaching Experience
- Provide clear examples and evidence that support the nominee’s teaching extent of knowledge and experience that may be across multiple teaching disciplines, e.g. Babies, Toddlers, Adults, Learners with Disability, Cultural Awareness in Aquatics
- How does the nominee ensure every student has the opportunity and is able to participate in activities at their own level of knowledge, skill and understanding?
- What activities and strategies does the nominee use to share vital swimming and water safety knowledge and skills?
- Professional Development
- Provide clear examples and evidence that demonstrate the nominee’s commitment to professional development above and beyond what is required for Swim Teacher/Instructor accreditation.
- Leadership
- Provide clear examples and evidence that demonstrate the nominee’s commitment to the training and development of other teachers.
- Outstanding Contribution to the Community
- Provide clear examples and evidence that demonstrate the nominee's outstanding contribution to engage, develop and learn from community.
