LIWA Aquatics Hosts Successful North West Aquatic Recreation Seminar in Port Hedland

The Leisure Institute of WA Aquatics (LIWA Aquatics), in partnership with Royal Life Saving, recently held the North West Aquatic Recreation Seminar on May 10th, 2024, at the Wanangkura Stadium in South Hedland. The event, supported by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, Town of Port Hedland, Trade Exhibitors Fluidra, Sigma Chemicals, and Niche Diving Services, brought together 40 industry professionals from across the North West region of WA.

The seminar focused on professional development and networking opportunities for pool managers in the North West regions.

  

Key Highlights of the Seminar:

  • National Aquatic Workforce Framework and Safe Pools Report: Special guest Tess Craigie from Royal Life Saving Australia provided valuable insights on the National Aquatic Industry Workforce Framework and the Safer Public Pools Report.
  • Industry Updates: Leanne Coverley-Brandis from RLSSWA addressed Training and Qualification updates, keeping attendees informed on the latest industry requirements.
  • Around the Pools: A review session offered a platform for attendees to introduce themselves and provide an update on their facility and recent season overview.
  • Roundtable Discussions: A dedicated roundtable discussion tackled the critical issues of maintaining regional aquatic facilities, fostering collaboration and problem-solving amongst attendees.
  • Anti-Social Behaviour Solutions: The Town of Port Hedland presented their Anti-Social Behaviour program, equipping pool managers with strategies to address the challenges of Anti-Social Behaviour.
  • Site Tours: Attendees gained valuable firsthand experience through guided tours of the South Hedland Aquatic Centre and Gratwick Aquatic Centre with an information session on the recent works that were completed on the pool and facility.

Networking Opportunities:

The seminar concluded with a networking dinner, providing a relaxed environment for industry professionals to connect, share experiences, and build relationships. This fostered collaboration and knowledge exchange within the North West aquatic recreation sector.

The North West Aquatic Recreation Seminar proved to be a valuable platform for professional development and networking for pool managers in the region. By focusing on industry updates, regional challenges, and practical solutions, the seminar equipped attendees with the knowledge and resources and also the opportunity to “Maintain the Network”.
