2025 WA Aquatic Recreation Industry Awards – Celebrating Excellence!

The WA Aquatic Recreation Industry Awards, presented by the Leisure Institute of Western Australia (Aquatics), recognise the outstanding individuals, teams, and facilities that drive innovation and best practices in the industry. These prestigious awards honour excellence in aquatic & recreation facility management, safety, and programs, showcasing the dedication and commitment of those who make a difference.

New Category!

Facilities that demonstrate innovation in design, development, and/or operation, making a significant impact on their communities are invited to apply for the prestigious Facility of the Year Award.  This Award is open to both new facilities and existing facilities across WA.

This award recognises demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement of aquatic health and safety outcomes through the creation and continuation of an outstanding safety culture.

Acknowledging individuals who excel in facility operations, this category celebrates outstanding leadership, technical expertise, and a commitment to exceptional customer service and safety in roles such as Duty Manager, Supervisor, or Aquatic Technical Operator.

The Community Impact Award celebrates facility-based aquatic recreation programs that promote access and inclusion, enhance community well-being, and create a lasting positive impact. It highlights initiatives that increase community engagement, support user groups, and drive behavioural change toward healthier lifestyles and broader social benefits.

Recognise those outstanding individuals 18- 30 years of age who are committed, passionate, motivated and show potential leadership abilities.


The Pool Lifeguard of the Year Award acknowledges those individuals that display excellence and dedication to lifeguarding, encompassing customer service, knowledge and skills relating to lifeguarding, interpersonal and leadership skills, commitment to safety and overall contribution to the facility.

This award recognises excellence in the performance of sustainability practices in the built environment, relating to the management and incremental improvement of energy and resource management and operational practices.

This award celebrates innovative and effective management practices to achieve excellence in swim school operations. This award focuses on programming, human resources, customer service, risk management, community involvement, training and professional development, industry engagement and partnerships. This Award is open to both public and private swim schools.

The Swim Teacher of the Year award is an opportunity to acknowledge the commitment, contribution and professionalism to the education and safety of individual teachers.


This award celebrates excellence in achieving the objectives of the Watch Around Water program, which focuses on promoting water safety for young children. It acknowledges facilities or individuals who effectively implement and uphold the program’s key principles, ensuring a safe and supervised aquatic environment.
